Who is Ugly Mug?

Hi Everyone, and thanks for stopping by my studio page.

My name is Jeanna (Say: Gina) and I am new to selling pottery although ceramics have been in my blood (and life) since I was a child in my mother’s basement shop.

I was a Michigan Public Schools Science teacher and an educator for the University of Michigan’s Natural History Museum before deciding to finally take the dive into becoming a full time potter!

What a JOURNEY it has been to open my own garage studio and to leap into the world of selling my work to the public.

You will notice that I have a lot of variety in my work because every time I sit down I am inspired by the world around me. The bugs in my yard, the squirrels that continue to try and live in my studio (in spite of our every morning chases around the kiln) and all the many strange and geeky things that I love. I collect skulls, rocks and fossils, I adore bugs and anything creepy-crawly, I play board games, watch cartoons, lead a scout troop into the woods and mentor on a high school robotics team so ,I have a lot of inspiration!

Every single item on this site is made by me, at my home. When you shop here, you are directly supporting the arts, a small business and family! Even if you don’t buy a single thing, I appreciate you taking the time to look at my work and to send me feedback.

If you want to see where 1 Ugly Mug will be next or want to follow along on my day-to-day studio happenings (the good, the ugly and the very dusty) you can find me me on facebook by using the link over there ——->

While I would love to make you 100 mugs for your companies holiday gift giving, you will also see that one-off’s and custom work are totally my thing too. Hit me up with what inspires YOU and let’s make some clay happen!
